Hero Arts Color Layering Stamping

Howdy, here I am again with a project for you that is home decor rather than a card. Sometimes you think what the heck am I going to make then you get rolling and dive in. I have really enjoyed the projects I have made for this months challenge. I made another thing for my craft room. It is not really craft related but sits in my craft room next to my computer. I am going to use the stand I made to hold my birthday lists. I like them right in front of me so I can quickly see the birthdays coming up.

So here we go.

Hero Arts Color Layering Monarch Butterfly

To start off my project I got this wood stand at Michaels craft store. I used Distress paint in a few different colors of brown to paint the wood.

For the butterflies I used the Hero Arts Color Layering Monarch Butterfly stamp set and the Flutterbies Printable digital set. Both of these are available in the a2z Scrapbooking Etsy shop. First I used my Misti to stamp the 3 layers of the larger monarch butterfly. For the 2 smaller butterflies I used the Flutterbies Printable kit to print the pdf with 6 butterflies on it. I just told the printer I was printing on a 4X6 piece of paper which in reality I used an 8 1/2 X 11 piece of Neenah paper. This makes all of the butterflies print smaller. I colored the 2 purple ones with Copic pens. I hand cut all of the butterflies but the Monarch Butterfly matching die is available in the a2z Etsy store. I glued these down over the branches. There are little strips of foam under part of the wings of the orange butterfly and under the purple butterfly on the right to give them some dimension.

Here comes the tricky part…. I decided I wanted to die cut the branches out of Tim Holtz plain tissue paper. You need to make it more stable to run it through a die cut machine. I put some 2 sided adhesive on the tissue and die cut 2 of the branches. The trickiest part is after you take off the backing paper you have a very delicate branch that you have to keep from sticking to itself and get it on to that wood without ripping it. The first one, all good. The second one I had to fight with it.

The clasp that holds the paper at the top is colored with Alcohol Ink.

Here is a look without the list.

Hero Arts Color Layering Monarch Butterfly Home Decor

Hello! I am here today with a home decor project I made for my craft room. Our monthly challenge is all about Anything But a Card so here we have it. I tell you I am happy to get nudged to make a fun project that is not a card. I used two Hero Arts sets for this which are Color Layering Monarch Butterfly and Flowers for Coloring. Both are available for purchase in the a2z Scrapbooking Etsy store. Use my discount code Karen15 to get 15% off your purchase of $25 or more.

Hero Arts Color Layering Monarch Butterfly

I bought this little box at Michaels with a coupon. I got it to put my dies in after using them so they don’t get lost in the piles.

The first thing was get out the book pages and cut them to fit on each side of the box. I could not get my Mod Podge open so I used 3 in 1 glue which worked better than I thought.

Second stamp the color layering butterfly. This layering butterfly is pretty darn easy to line up. I did use my Misti but it was easier than some of them can be. Tip: I stamp the bottom (largest amount of color) first and then end with the detailed stamp. On the lighter one I used 2 Avery Elle inks and Versafine Onyx Black ink. On the darker one I used 2 Oxide inks and the Versafine. I stamped these on some off white paper and hand cut them out. You can get the matching die in the Etsy shop also. Since you can’t really hand cut the antennae I just stamped the antennae on the book page where I was going to put the butterflies.

And now about the flowers and leaves. I used the Flowers for Coloring for that. I have enjoyed using this set and I think is one to check out. After stamping the flowers on the box I made a mask for each flower. I covered each one with the mask and then stamped the leaves. I colored all of them with colored pencils.

Then I glued the butterflies to the box. It is probably hard to see but I arched the top wings just a bit to give a tiny bit of dimension.

Then I inked around the edges with Oxide Distress ink and lightly here and there on the rest of the book page. I am very happy how it came out.

Here is a few more photos of each side.

Hero Arts Poppy Background

ChallengeBadgeMarch19

Hi all, its Gwendolyn here back with my last post for a2z Scrapbooking as I move on to other projects. I had such fun designing with this great team and I just want to thank everyone, especially Cindy, for being so supportive and helpful during my term here.

Poppy coaster

So for my last card, I wanted to do something different and also inspire you to join us in this month’s “Color It In” challenge. I just bought 100 pulp board coasters made from compact paper, with an idea to paint on them. So I decided to try it using stamps first and the Hero Arts poppy background in its square shape was just perfect for my project.

I first stamped it with Peacock Feathers distress ink, being careful to avoid the flowers, then coloured in the florals with my pink Zig Clean color real brush. I spritzed the whole stamp with fine mists of water and placed the coaster over my stamp. I started colouring in the large poppy with my Zig marker but realised that the coaster was absorbing it too fast and so I couldn’t blend it and it left very clear marks. So I switched to my watercolours and the result was much better. Once the paint dried, I brushed the whole coaster with clear Varnish so it would be waterproof and UV resistant.

Poppy coaster cu

Well, I hope you liked my watercolour coaster, it was my first time so it’s not perfect but I think its important to share my mistakes too! If you’re interested to see my other watercolour coaster projects, do visit my blog.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see your projects in our challenge gallery here. Have a great day!

Gwendolyn

Hero Arts Seventh Heaven Sun And Moon

Hello everyone,

I am sharing a couple projects  today featuring Hero Arts’ Seventh Heaven Digi Stamp.

For my first card, I was inspired by a wall hanging I saw in Mexico when I last traveled there.  It was a half sun and half moon together and I was really intrigued.  And this is what I came up with and it is quite similar to what I saw.

I love how this turned out btw!!  I used my image editor and resize both the sun and moon image, then I copy and paste the moon over the sun image.  First I outlined everything using color glaze pen expect the faces, this I used gold and silver gel pen to outline.  Next I filled in with Copic markers.  Lastly I added gold and silver dots in the triangle areas.  Here’s a couple close up.

To finished the card I trim the panel and adhere to black card panel and then use foam adhesive to a pink pattern paper which is glued to a 5 1/2 square card base.  To embellish I added a few star shape sequins.  I just love the colorful mosaic look on this card.

For my second card, I took a different approach with just two colors, gold and silver.

After I printed the same image, as on my first card, on white card stock, I darken the outlines with a black archival marker.  Then I painted with Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Gold and Pewter (Silver) watercolor ink.  While that dries, I gold heat embossed the sentiment and splattered the same ink on a black card base.  Then I carefully trimmed the sun moon image and adhere to the card front.

Do you spot something different in the sun ray between the two images (card 1 and card 2)?

Yes I doodled and extra line at the end of the curls and make it thicker on card 2.  It not only gives variation to the design, it was easier to hand cut too!   😀

This month’s challenge theme is to Color It In.   I hope I’ve inspired you to play along.  Scroll down to get the details.  🙂

prairie final 2

I received the Hero Arts On the Prairie Fancy die set in a gift package and I was stumped on how I was going to use it.  I’ve always been a fan of Southwestern Art so I loved the set and it seemed that a card just couldn’t do it justice.  So I decided to make a wall hanging.  I hope you like it as much as I do!  If you are interested in seeing how this was made feel free to jump on over to my personal blog, Art Without Anxiety.   Hope to see your creations in the challenge! See you soon!

Ornament Tile

Hello all, Monica here today to share a project I made to the December theme…

a2z monthly challenge

I decided to try something new (at least for me) and heat emboss on a ceramic tile. I could use a little more practice and work on the details,  but I still like the way it turned out. I wiped the surface and added some anti-static powder, even though powder stuck where I didn’t really want it too.

ornament-tile

I tried to carefully wipe away as much powder as I could from where I didn’t want it. I then started to heat it up with my embossing gun. The heating portion did take longer than it does on paper, since I’m working on a tile. I finished it off by adding a piece of cork on the back to protect any surface that I may lay it on.

ornament-tile-closeup

I tried to get  close up, so you could see the sparkle from the embossing powder. This is a lot of fun and I think I know what I’ll be making for some gifts in the future!

OUT THE BOX WITH HERO ARTS VINTAGE WISHES

Hello crafty friends, Martha Lucia here to share with you cute boxes that I made using the stamp set Vintage Wishes from Hero Arts.  Create these boxes was very easy and I used the some papers from the Winter Bliss Collection of Quick Quotes Scrapbook  and the envelope punch board. During Christmas season it is very common to prepare small presents for our family and friends, and this kind of package is very easy to make and decorate:

img_6585

To create this you only need a 6″x6″ piece of decorated paper. You need to punch and score in 2″ and 4″ on all four sides of the squares using the Envelope Punch Board. Then you fold the score lines and cut the corners in same way to build the box. Before you build the box, don’t forget to round the corners and punch a tiny hole on each point to tie the box after building it.

img_6590

I put chocolates inside each box and then I tied with thick baker’s twine.

To finalize the decoration I cut a small stitched die cut using a coordinated paper and a second using a piece of card stock. Over the die cut of card stock I stamped a sentiment and the cute snowman from the stamp set Vintage Wishes from Hero Arts using different colors of ink to coordinate with the colors of my boxes. I tied each mini tag to the box using gold metallic thread.

I hope you too will join us in the challenge this month. You have until month end to submit your project for a chance at a $25 Gift Card.

Pineapple picks

Hello everyone Monica here to share a project I made for a recent gathering at my house. I made some Pina Colada cupcakes and wanted to make some decorative picks for them. I decided to use some new layering stamps and inks to create the picks.

Pineapple pick

I started by die cutting the shapes then stamping them one layer at a time. Once the stamping was done I added the flowers and adhered the pineapples to toothpicks.

Mini 3D Village

Hello hello,

Here we are well into the second half of October, have you started your holiday projects yet?  To be honest I have not make too many holiday cards yet, but I did play with Hero Arts 3-D House die.

It is a decoration I am calling Mini 3D Village.  I am not good baking real ginger bread to make houses, so instead I made a paper version.

IMG_7185

I use the Hero Arts 3-D House Essentials stamps for the stamping.

My process:

  • Die cut 3D house using white CS, caramel CS, and chocolate CS.
  • Stamp door, windows and fence with Antique Linen ink, add Diamond Stickle on white piece.
  • Adhere vellum in the inside to cover window.  Assemble house.
  • Stamp door, windows and wreath on cream CS with Vintage Photo ink, cut out and adhere onto to caramel piece.
  • Assemble house, add  extra piece chocolate CS on roof and add Platinum Stickle on roof.
  • Stamp door, windows, wreath and strings of light on chocolate house die cut with Unicorn ink, use white gel pen to highlite areas as shown.  (Note that the pattern on the chocolate house roof is from another stamp set).
  • Stamp Christmas tree from the 3D House Essential set multiple times on various CS, cut out, add extra doodle, score and glue together as shown.
  • Stamp Snowman three time on white CS, cut and glue together, add tiny tree branch shape and top hat.

Here’s some close ups:

I added a bottom layer to the houses including door mat.  I thought that makes it a little more realistic.  For a 360 degree view, please hop over to my blog Here.

I made a second project with 3D House die and glitter paper.
