Hero Arts In The Study Clean and Simple

A2Z has a Clean and Simple challenge for September and I thought I’d use the lovely chair in “In the Study” clear stamp set might work out well.   The sentiment on the books worked out well here too.  Nothing goes better with a stuffed chair than a good book or two.  I drew a line under both stamped images to ground them and tie them together.

You may be tempted to add something to the white space, but don’t.  My post is at A Bit of This and That.

No Line water-colouring with Hero Arts Poetic Petals digital stamp

Hi everyone! My name is Gwendolyn Goh and this is my very first post as a design team member at a2z Scrapbooking and I’m thrilled to be in such a talented team! For my first creation here, I decided to make a framable watercolour piece using one of the flowers from Hero Arts “Poetic Petals” digital stamp set & colouring it using the no line water-colouring method.

July 11 main

I created a video to show you exactly how I did it, but essentially I just printed the flowers onto normal printer paper and shaded the back of the flower I wanted to trace, with a large graphite stick. You can also use an ordinary pencil as that will work very well too. Once the back of the flower was all covered, I traced the flower with a normal pencil. The shading behind the flower acted like carbon paper and I ended up with the outline of the flower on my watercolour paper.

I then started water-colouring by adding the base colour and when that was thoroughly dry, added the fine lines you can find on the digi stamp, which I used as my template, with a thin brush. To finish, I flicked some paint on it (great way to use up your leftover paints) & added a frame with a black marker. I’m quite pleased with the result, especially since it is the first time I’ve done this with a digi stamp, so its really quite easy and I hope you’ll try it. Let me know if you do!

As promised, here’s the video I made to show you how I water-coloured this beautiful “Poetic Petals” digital stamp.

I hope you enjoyed my first post here. Thanks for stopping by & have a great end of the week!

Gwendolyn

Hero Arts Killer Messaged Mini Card Set

Hi Everyone, Kristina here with a mini card set showcasing the Hero Arts Killer Messages stamp set!
I bought this set mostly for the sentiments. I love the style, the design, and the sayings themselves!
They could be used with or without the other images in the set and they are nice bold stamps.

Here they are in action!

Hero Arts Killer Messages

I wanted to make some water-ish backgrounds to go with the shark/whale, so I went with alcohol inks and made 4 different combos using the colors I had on hand. I used ranger glossy paper that I had die cut into little scallop squares, and dropped on my alcohol ink / blending solution and moved it all around until I got the look desired.

Once they had fully dried and treated them generously with my EK Success Powder tool before embossing the images and sentiments with Versa Mark and Hero Arts White Embossing Powder.

Hero Arts Killer Messages

I cut the back card panel from the same die and adhered to two together at the top, with a score line for opening. These little note cards measure 3.5×3.5, which I’ll make custom envelopes for, and send off to my friends just for little pick me ups!

Hero Arts Killer Messages

I do have a bit of bad news though – There’s only 1 of these left in stock, so run, do not walk, to the a2z store and scoop it up
If you spend $25+ while your there use my code KRISTINA15 for 15% off too!
If someone grabs it before you that okay – Just use the request custom order button in our shop 🙂

One Layer Masking with Hero Arts Wishing Well

Hi Everyone! Kristina here playing with the Hero Arts Wishing Well stamp set.
I’ve made a few cards with this one here and here, but I wanted to try out using the images in this set to
create a single layer scene with some masked ink blending. Here’s what I came up with.

Hero Arts Wishing Well

To start I just stamped all of the images onto some masking paper and set aside, knowing I would need masks in the end.
Next I arranged my stamps how I wanted them, and carefully pulled them onto my MISTI layer by layer, stamping the images I wanted in front first. After all of the images were stamped and masked I used a cloud stencil and clarity brushes to create the background, and then blended some green ink onto the bottom for grass. I splattered some wink of stella across the sky for some sparkle. Gotta have sparkle. After removing the masks, I colored my images with copic markers, added a few pre-cut and colored images I had leftover from a previous project, and stamped and embossed a sentiment.

Here’s a close up

Hero Arts Butterflies with a Spiral Stencil

This is one of the few times I have not used a die cut machine, but I wanted a simple one layer card and again used a monochrome card which you might have seen on our March 1st post here at A2Z Scrapbooking.  I hadn’t tried this technique of just putting a long post-it through a card and inking up the rest of the card in a long time and I like how this turned out.   I didn’t want a long sentiment, so I searched for and found a short sentiment to go with the lovely soft butterfly.

Hero Arts Scribble Coffees

Happy Thursday everyone,

I am still playing with my ‘new to me’ Hero Arts Scribble Bold Print cling stamp, it’s less than a month old so I say it is still new.  LOL

I first stamped the Scribble background with various distress ink on white card stock.  Then I die cut my coffee cups (using Hero Arts Nesting Teacup Infinity Dies) and distressd the edges using matching inks.  On a kraft panel I created coffee cup rings with distress ink, and dots/splash with water color.  Then I stamped and clear embossed the sentiment (from the Color Layering Butterflies set) and use foam tape to adhere the stacked cups and saucer.   Want to know where my saucer comes from?!  🙂  It the bottom of a large cup from the same infinity dies set.  🙂  Then the kraft panel goes onto a regular card base.

I think with enough coffee one’s heart would flutter?!  😀  Have you play our January Challenge yet?  Scroll down and check the details.

Hero Arts Ornaments Infinity Lantern

Hi everybody,

I am so excited to share my project with you today, I used my Ornaments Infinity Dies to make not ornament but a faux lantern.  I am inspired by the Chinese Lantern Festival (which falls on March 2nd this year).

We all want to stretch our craft supplies right?  Last year I made some 3D ornaments using this same set of die, you could see them in this post.  And I thought to improve the shape of my ornaments, such as this one.

So I use one of the medium dies and make a prototype like this.

Instead of just scoring and folding down the center, I scored two lines leaving some space in the center.  I think it does look a lot better.  To tie the twine, I used a flower die cut using a die from the Hero Arts Frame Cut – Scallop Frame set and glue it over the top.  Now I just need to choose some color card stock to make or do some stamping on the white Cs before die cutting the pieces.  And those would be my next holiday project!!  Yay.

Next I experimented with a different die, and while doing that I thought why not expand the scope and made faux lantern?

I die cut six times the ornament shape, mark and score a rectangle area (see photo below), folded and glue together the edges.  To cover the top for the twine, I die cut the large snowflake from Hero Arts Frame Cut – Small and Large Snowflake set.  And it fitted perfectly.

And then I went ahead with my faux lantern, I used the largest die from the Ornaments Infinity Dies set.  By now I think you got the idea of the basic steps so I will skip the ‘how to’ and go right ahead to show you the end result.

Here’s a little video to show how it looks all around.
