Hero Arts Tiger Lily For You

Arlene here.

I think I sponged Mustard Seed distress ink through the stencil on the entire background panel.  I had created this flower more than a year ago and knew I wanted to use it this month with my newly created lilies for this month.  I wanted a more CAS style card, but with the flower popping off the page.  I quite like the style which is entirely different from my other tiger lily cards this month.  My first card was posted on our A2Z September 1st post and the second card on the September 3rd post.

I think most stencils such as the Hero Arts Scrollwork stencil would work well with this flower.  It’s a simple design that can be repeated over and over again.

I used a similar design and background on the card below September 1, 2018.

It’s a Birthday Bash This Month

This card seemed to flow from the colors.  I colored the cake in, set aside and looked for a stencil.  I think I used Tattered Rose distress ink to color in the stencil.  I believe I colored the cake in RV colors and used the same color for the flames as the “Happy” die-cut.  I know flames are usually yellow, but I just couldn’t use yellow here.  Using the cake as a backdrop, I die-cut “Birthday” in white.  The background makes this card feel and look so feminine.  This turned out better than I thought when I first started with its creation.

Hero Arts Love Swirls Stenciled Wedding & Anniversary

Hello there,

July’s challenge theme – Sparkle & Shine prompts me to think of weddings and anniversaries.   And I am using this stencil, Hero Arts Love Swirls Stencil today.

Isn’t it lovely?  Now let’s take a look of my projects.

First up I made a CAS wedding card.  The pattern of the stencils reminds me of a bride’s veil, or it could be some details on a wedding dress.  So I went ahead and align the stencil on a white card base so that only half is on the card.  I masked the necessary areas and spread a light modeling paste over the stencil, lifted the stencil and sprinkled Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter over the paste right away so they would adhere.  After it dried I furbish the glitter by rubbing the stenciled area.  And shake off the excess glitter.  Then I heat embossed the sentiment in Brass.

Next I created an anniversary card.  I used an inking tool and inked only parts of the stencil.  I did one side first then move the stencil to the opposite side and repeated the process.  Then the sentiment is stamped in black and clear heat embossed.

Next I masked the stenciled area and the sentiment, and splatter the middle section with Glimmer Metallic Gold Ink.

Both cards are one layer, so very mailing friendly!  🙂  Btw, the Love Swirls stencil is on sale right now, It’s 50% off the regular price.  Get yours today.

Now it’s your turn to make something Sparkly and Shinny and play along our July Challenge.  Scroll down to get the details.

Hero Arts Flutterbies Using Colored Pencils

Howdy! I hope you all are doing ok during this cold winter. It’s cold here in California for what I am used to. You have a good excuse to stay inside your warm crafty space and make some cards. I have a card today using digital images, colored pencils and a stencil. The colors (pinks, reds, grays) on the mood board for this months challenge caught my eye. So why not pink and red butterflies. Arlene and I were thinking about butterflies.

Hero Arts Flutterbies Printable

For the background I put a little Oxide Distress Ink down on a surface. I then took some embossing paste and mixed them together. I used a Hero Arts stencil for the pattern. I tried something a bit different for me and that is a random/partial background pattern. My brain wants to cover the entire background with a very even & symmetrical pattern.

For the butterflies I used the Hero Arts Flutterbies Printable Butterfly Digital Kit. You just print them, color them and cut them out. This kit comes with 3 sizes of butterflies and two different patterns on the wings. I learned a little trick with these. I first printed them out how they came. I wanted a couple smaller butterflies than they are originally. In my print dialog box I told it that I was printing on 4X6 paper so it shrinks to fit. I actually put in a 8 1/2 X 11 piece of Neenah cardstock and printed them. It worked great. I colored the butterflies with Prismacolor pencils. I went over a couple little spots on each butterfly with a Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen. Shimmer is the look I like a lot rather than glitter. When I glued down the butterflies I arched the wings a bit and only glued down the centers and outer wings to give a bit of dimension.

For the sentiment I die cut the words out twice using dark gray paper. The sentiment is actually attached in one long line but I cut it apart to fit my card. I glued those together and attached them to the card.

Hero Arts Spiral Stencil With Words Of Love

I’ve used the Spiral Stencil in several different colors over the past 6 months or so.  I do like this in an orange to red gradation and I thought hearts are red and this would fit February.  A bit of Love goes a LONG way and this fits my mood.

The dark color is a gray, but this is a mood board, not a color board.  I couldn’t tell for sure because the box looks navy blue to me.

Hero Arts Tiger Lily

Guess what’s in the store?   The NEW CHRISTMAS Hero Arts products are in the A2Z Scrapbooking store.  Go shopping NOW!

I made a tag to say hello, but then I wanted to experiment with colors, some were successful and some not so much.

First up is my hello tag.  With the tiger Lily stamp set, I like all the sentiments in this stamp set and I think they will be well used.  .  I also ordered the suggested ink cube pack, Desert Sun for stamping the flower.  I used Dandelion for the bottom stamp, Tangerine for the middle and Strawberry for the top stamp.

  • Order of stamping:
  • Lay the Spiral Stencil over the tag and sponge with Dandelion ink.
  • No masking because the same color ink is used on the bottom flower layer.
  • Stamp in order (stamping order on back of stamp set packaging.
  • Stamp sentiment.

You can use any stencil with the same color as the bottom layer of the flower without masking.

I put together some color combinations on my personal blog with the Color Layering Tiger Lily in various distress ink colors.  Be sure to go down to the very bottom of my post at A Bit of This and That. .  I was surprised how the white embossing looked on the final top stamp of this set.

Color Layering Tiger Lily – a Monochromatic Card

Hi! It’s Sue here today. It’s with some sadness that I write that this will be my last post here at a2z Scrapbooking as I’ve decided to step down from this wonderful team of talented and supportive card makers. Now that I’ve retired from my “real” job, I feel that I need to try some new things – not quite sure what they are though, LOL!

Here’s my card for today

I was inspired by this month’s “monochrome” challenge and wondered if I could create a monochromatic card. I started with the Scrollwork Stencil, spiced marmalade distress ink and an ink blending tool. I stamped off once to get a more muted tone of orange onto the upper left corner of my card base. I stamped all three layers of the tiger lily using three orange inks (they will be listed below) using my MISTI and then fussy cut the flowers. On a scrap of orange cardstock, I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set and cut it into a banner. When assembling the card, I decided to pop the middle bloom up on dimensionals. I think that I did OK with my all orange card.

Dragonfly Die In Metallic

Hi, friends, Chark here with a card featuring the Dragonfly die from Hero Arts. I looovvee this die and it comes with the detailed die and an outline die. I cut the outline in metallic blue paper and the detailed die from white cardstock, which I used Diamond Stickles on.

il_570xN.1503125374_476j

I used the Wonderful Stamp and Cut and the Spiral Stencil for the background. I used watercolor paper and taped the stencil in place. I sprinkled on Color Burst powder pigments and spritzed with water while the stencil was in place. I let it dry and then removed the stencil. It didn’t stay white but it was lighter and I think the vibrant color is fab!

Here it is in close-up so you can see the shine. I added silver metallic bling and outlined the stamped sentiment in white Uniball pen.

Dragonfly Fancy Die by Hero Arts

I am so in love with this Dragonfly Fancy Die from Hero Arts—it’s detailed but not crazy detailed so you don’t have to baby it when you die cut it from your machine, and it looks good just about every way you try.

I’ve cut it from black paper, white cardstock, glitter paper, metallic paper, vellum, sticker paper, patterned paper, watercolor paper and more. It’s so versatile and you can get a lot of uses from it. I think it’s a beautiful way to do Sympathy, Thinking of You, Birthday and Hello cards. To make this dragonfly, I die cut the insect from gold metallic paper and used acetate (dripped with alcohol inks) as the wings.

For my cards, I’ve left off the sentiment to be stamped inside later. I think the gold glitter paste with the stencil and the dragonfly is all the card front needs. It’s pretty striking on its own. I love how the acetate/alcohol inks give it a stained glass look.

For this card, I die cut the dragonfly from black paper and used some Hero Arts Liquid Watercolors dripped onto watercolor paper for the wing backing. It’s definitely a different look, but still striking in a different way. The pool card and gold stenciling is the same as the first card.

A Blog Named Hero is back! They have a new challenge up and two prizes available…the theme is Use Your Fave Hero Arts and since this Dragonfly die is now officially my fave, I’m entering the top card with the gold dragonfly in the challenge. You can join me here.

Pop over to my blog to see more dragonflies with different papers and wings on this post at Glitter in my Kitchen.

Happy Wednesday!

Hero Arts Hybrid Card – Mermaid Sea Waves Stencil and Digital Kits

Hi! This is Sue and I have a hybrid card for you today. What’s a hybrid card, you ask – well it’s a combination of using traditional paper crafting supplies, like stencils, stamps and digital images. Here’s my card.

For my card, I used a Hero Arts stencil with distress inks (cracked pistachio, mermaid lagoon, salty ocean). For the fish, I used a Hero Arts digital kit – DK039 Beach Adventure. I adjusted the size of the fish and printed them out with my inkjet printer. I added colour with Copic markers and fussy cut them. For the sentiment, I used another Hero Arts digital kit – DK116 Special Birthday, which I cut into a banner and matted with blue cardstock.
