prairie final 2

I received the Hero Arts On the Prairie Fancy die set in a gift package and I was stumped on how I was going to use it.  I’ve always been a fan of Southwestern Art so I loved the set and it seemed that a card just couldn’t do it justice.  So I decided to make a wall hanging.  I hope you like it as much as I do!  If you are interested in seeing how this was made feel free to jump on over to my personal blog, Art Without Anxiety.   Hope to see your creations in the challenge! See you soon!

Hero Arts Ornaments Infinity Lantern

Hi everybody,

I am so excited to share my project with you today, I used my Ornaments Infinity Dies to make not ornament but a faux lantern.  I am inspired by the Chinese Lantern Festival (which falls on March 2nd this year).

We all want to stretch our craft supplies right?  Last year I made some 3D ornaments using this same set of die, you could see them in this post.  And I thought to improve the shape of my ornaments, such as this one.

So I use one of the medium dies and make a prototype like this.

Instead of just scoring and folding down the center, I scored two lines leaving some space in the center.  I think it does look a lot better.  To tie the twine, I used a flower die cut using a die from the Hero Arts Frame Cut – Scallop Frame set and glue it over the top.  Now I just need to choose some color card stock to make or do some stamping on the white Cs before die cutting the pieces.  And those would be my next holiday project!!  Yay.

Next I experimented with a different die, and while doing that I thought why not expand the scope and made faux lantern?

I die cut six times the ornament shape, mark and score a rectangle area (see photo below), folded and glue together the edges.  To cover the top for the twine, I die cut the large snowflake from Hero Arts Frame Cut – Small and Large Snowflake set.  And it fitted perfectly.

And then I went ahead with my faux lantern, I used the largest die from the Ornaments Infinity Dies set.  By now I think you got the idea of the basic steps so I will skip the ‘how to’ and go right ahead to show you the end result.

Here’s a little video to show how it looks all around.

Holiday projects with Ornament Infinity Dies

Hi everybody, I must tell you I am very eager to share my holiday projects with you!  I got my new Hero Arts Ornament Infinity Dies last Friday and I am like a child whom just received a new toy!!  Of course I played with it right away!!  LOL

A couple days ago my design team mate Char created some beautiful ornamentd using the same die and washi tapes.  See it here.  I reached for my glitter powders and glitter paper, and experimented.

  1. die cut using glitter paper
  2. adhere fine glitter powder using Stick It
  3. adhere glitter using Stick It
  4. die cut using gold foil card stock and metallic card stock from the Hero Arts December 2016 My Monthly Hero Kit

Each product gave me a different look.    I selected some of the pieces from my experiment to put on my card.

On my white postage stamp shape panel (die cut using Hero Arts Postage Stamp Infinity Dies) I stamp the pine branches from the Hero Arts Vintage Christmas Post set, and add faux snow (mixture of glossy embossing paste and glitter) and gold heat emboss the sentiment from the same set.  I adhere the ornaments (thread with sliver cord) using foam adhesive.  I cut a tiny slit underneath the branch and tug the end of the sliver cord in under the white panel, secure with tape.  Then adhere the white panel onto red card base with foam adhesive.  To make the smaller ornaments, I first peel off the backing of the Stick It and place it on white card stock.  Then I die cut the ornaments.  Next I peeled off the remainding backing and sprinkle the glitter over it.

While I was waiting the faux snow for my card to dry I decide to play some more with the dies and made ornaments.  First a 2D version, then a 3D version, then I got carried away and made another combining the two techniqes!  Hehe!!

If you don’t mind the long post read on!  I think everything is pretty much self explanatory.  I included some snap shots taken while making them.   This first one has an inner piece suspended using fishing wire.

These two are not complicate to make, just cut multiples (same color or multiple colors), score down the middle, fold and glue together.  Just remember to add cord before gluing the last piece.  Right now they could be considered the ‘vanilla’ version, but one could always embellish further using bling, button, and the alike.

The last one is a combination of the first two.  And I needed some help to hold things while I glue, so I used a clip.

Whew!  Finally done (for this post).  But I am not done playing with the dies.  😀  This set of dies has different size and shape ornament, so imagine the combination you could have!  Get yours first, right now.  It’s available at the a2z Etsy store, use my promote code Cindy15 to get a discount, scroll down for more details.  Check it out.

Fresh Herbs Shadow Box with Hero Arts

Happy Wednesday everyone,

I am back with another project created for April’s Challenge – Getting to Know you (use your favorite Hero Arts products).  I am using my new favorite set – Fresh Herbs, and to tell you a little bit about me, I like gardening when I am not crafting.  And the idea of today’s project is somewhat related to gardening.  Ever see those raise vegetable/flower bed that is framed by wood in real or in magazine?  I drew my inspiration on that, and made an irregular shape shadow box.

My process:

  • Use sturdy card stock to create open boxes.  Cut correspond card stocks for each box for stamping.  Stamp, heat emboss, color each image.  Adhere to box, arrange and adhere together as shown.  The dimension and colors are listed one by one below.
  • Dill: 3 by 2 1/2 inch, stamp in Crushed Olive, clear heat embossed.
  • Sage: 1 7/8 by 3 inch, stamp in clear, gold heat embossed, filled with watercolor.
  • Mint: 2 by 2 inch, stamp in Bundled Sage, clear heat embossed, filled with watercolor.
  • Parsley: 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch, stamp in Peeled Paint and Crushed Olive, clear heat embossed, filled with watercolor.
  • Rosemary: 2 by 3 inch, stamp in Peeled Paint, clear heat embossed.
  • Bay: 3 by 2 inch, stamp in clear, gold heat embossed, filled with watercolor.
  • Basil: 2 by 2 inch, stamp in Lime Green, clear heat embossed, filled with watercolor.
  • Thyme: 3 by 2 inch, stamp in Field Green, clear heat embossed.
  • To embellish, I use an old digital stamp set from Hero Arts and created paper pieced rain boots, gardening tools and watering can.

Here’s a look of it after I pin it up on my wall.

Our April challenge theme is Getting To Know You (use your favorite Hero Arts products on your projects).  Come join in the fun, you could win a $25 gift card to the store by entering to the challenge.
