CASE a DT Challenge – Wonderful Stamp Cut with Winged Friends

kymona case wm 1.jpg

Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s over half way through the month of September!

I’m catching up of making some birthday cards for my stash and I thought I’d CASE Kymona’s card here from November 2016.

Kymona nov 16.jpg

I printed this dragonfly from the “Winged Friends” Hero Arts Digital set and cut him out with my Scan n Cut, then colored him with Spectrum Noir markers.  The wonderful is from Hero Arts Wonderful Stamp and Cut set.  I used a Gina K Designs card base – love the thickness and high quality of it!  I think this stamp and cut set is becoming one of my favorites ever because you can use it year round!  Please see my list of supplies linked below.

Hope you will join us in this month’s challenge – CASE a Designer!

Here’s another view of my card:

Cole’s Freakin’ Birthday card

Hello everyone! Monica here to share a card that was actually made by my son Cole. His girlfriends birthday is actually today (the 12th). I’m I cheating by posting the card? I mean I did assist, he wouldn’t have known where to start without my assistance!

coles freakin' birthday card

How romantic right! I did help but really only a little he did all the stamping himself, while I did the cutting and embossing. For the stamping he used a dark gray, but stamped it off to lighten the color so the main sentiment would stand out.

I hope you enjoyed seeing Cole’s card, and hope his girlfriend likes it too! It was a joy to have in my craft room and making a card with me. Thanks to all for stopping by and have a great day!

Corner Birthdays

Today I’m sharing 2 cards I made. I am on the hospitality committee for the PTA at my boys school. We provide a meal once a month for the staff and like to celebrate the staff birthdays too. I’m in charge of making the cards and someone else brings the birthday treats. We only have 2 birthdays this month, but I still kept it super simple.

I stamped the images on both cards then colored. I used the same yellow, green and brown shades on both cards. Adding pink and purple for a more feminine feel on one and keeping the other in more primary tones.I also traced the birthday sentiment in a pink glitter pen for a little sparkle.

Distress Stripes and Hero Arts Peacock Stencil

Aloha and Happy Wednesday friends!  This month’s challenge is playing with stencils and there are so many techniques to use.  The best part about stencils is they’re inexpensive and super versatile!  Here’s my card for today…

Hero Arts Peacock Feather Stencil and Distress Stripes

I first created some stripes using Distress Inks in Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers and Blueprint Sketch on Strathmore Mixed Media paper.  Then I took the Hero Arts Peacock Feathers Stencil  and layed it over and gave it a quick mist of water, blotting away the excess.  This technique gives you a bit of a “bleached look.”  Extra tips: fine mist works best and blotting right after.  Also placing a darker layer of Distress Inks makes the “bleaching effect” more prominent.

Hero Arts Peacock Feather Stencil and Distress Stripes

The sentiment is from Hero Arts Birthday Messages and is inked in Hero Arts Intense Black ink and added a couple of thin black strips of cardstock to bring out the black ink.  To complete the look I added the new Hero Arts Ombre Ocean sequins.  These sequins are gorgeous and I love that there are different shades and 2 different sizes!

I hope this inspires you to join our monthly challenge for your chance to win $25 to the a2z Scrapbooking store!  We also have ANOTHER chance for you to get a $25 gift certificate by simply commenting on each blog post throughout March!

Mahalo for stopping by and good luck!!

A Fishy Birthday with Hero Arts

Happy Wednesday friends!  Hope your week is going by well…I’m personally looking forward to the 4 day weekend for Thanksgiving!!

Today’s card was made for a friend that loves fishes.  I used the fun Hero Arts Color Layering Goldfish with matching dies and Hero Arts Inks in Pale Tomato and Strawberry Hybrid Ink then topped with Hero Arts Clear Embossing powder for a little shine.

The confetti background and balloon is from Hero Arts Balloon Animal Birthday with matching dies.

For added fun I made the fish “swim” through the water using a slider die cut and a penny behind the fish.  There are tons of YouTube videos that you can watch to make a penny slider card.  I love interactive cards.

That’s it for me today!  Don’t forget about our monthly challenge for your chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the store.

Easy Masking, Neon Ombre and a Deal

Aloha friends!  Niki G. here with a super easy way to do some quick masking.  Have you seen our latest challenge?  You could win a $25 gift certificate to the a2z Scrapbooking Store just by sharing your project with masking!

Ok on to today’s card…

To create the background I quickly inked up the Tiny Flowers and Dots using the newest Hero Arts neon ombre ink (neon chartreuse to blue).  This background stamp is currently a whopping $5!  It’s pretty, and fun, and for $5 it’s a deal!!  Hurry cause there’s only 1 left…good luck!

Then I swiped the neon ombre ink pad on a separate piece of cardstock that was die cut with a stitched rectangle die.  You’ll need to allow this to dry completely before doing this next step! I took the sentiment from the Hero Arts You’re So Kind set and stamped it with Versamark ink at the bottom of the swipes, then covered in Hero Arts White Embossing powder and heat set.  I then masked off the bottom of the stamp using painter’s tape to be able to just ink up the happy part.

I pressed the Versamark inkpad over and removed the tape.  Now only the word “happy” is inked and I can continue the process to make a Happy, Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday card!  A MISTI tool helps keep everything aligned.

Here’s a closeup…

I used fun foam to give that swiped panel some dimension from the card base.

So there ya have it!  Masking can be simple and fun!!  Hope you’ll join us.

Mahalo for stopping by!

a2z September 2015 Challenge

Hello everyone!!!  Welcome to the month of September!!  I can’t believe we are back to school all ready.  In NY, my niece starts today and my daughter tomorrow.  The rest of the city starts next week. We usually start after Labor day too, but the school district pushed those days up.   I guess we are still lucky, because some areas have started already!!

Our new challenge will be so much fun and full of sequin and/or other shaker items!!  Our challenge this month is all about Shake It Up!!  Shaker cards are my favorite type of card these days.  I love the added look they give to cards and the way the receiver looks when they get them.

So how do you create a shaker card?   A couple of the DT’s have a tutorial on their blog for you to review!

Please be sure that your project contains at least ONE main HERO ART Product!  This will be fun and interesting.

The Design Team has created some great inspiration pieces for you.  Take a look:

Seeing Stars

Hi, crafty friends, it’s Chark here today to share my take on the August challenge to use embossing paste. I used one of my favorite stencils, Starry Night, to upcycle a CD case and CD envelope. We recently got a new computer and turns out, a lot of my CDs for software won’t work, everything is just downloaded now. Soooo, that means I have a lot of CDs and their cases for making art.

For this first project, I just dripped alcohol inks on the inside of the CD case lid after I used silver embossing paste on the outside of the lid with my stencil. My teen daughter still makes mix CDs for people (including me, with music she thinks I should be listening to), so this case would work great for a CD gift. I added a strip of silver glitter washi tape to the edge.

IMG_7493For my second CD packaging upcycle, I embossed silver stars again, this time on the acetate portion of the CD paper envelope. I painted the paper part with Dylusions blue paint, it’s so vibrant! Then I added a moon embossed in silver paste and then glittered with silver Stickles, the hello die cut from silver paper and a birthday greeting from another Hero Arts stamp set on silver paper. Inside, I filled it with a gift card wrapped in a mini doily and added sequin mix. It makes giving a gift card a little more festive than just tucking it in a birthday card.

IMG_7515IMG_7468I had fun playing with Hero Arts and embossing paste, hope you’ll join us at a2z Scrapbooking Supplies this month in our challenge. Hello!  It’s great to be here with my first solo post for a2z 🙂

I have a simple card to share with you featuring a lovely Hero Arts stencil which is new to me – Leaf and Flourish.  There are lots of things you can do with stencils but when I am first trying them out I like to ink through them to get a feel for the design.  I inked through this stencil with Tumbled Glass, Peacock Feathers, Shabby Shutters and Crushed Olive Distress Inks to provide some interest.  The stencil makes a great focal point and I didn’t want to cover it up so I die cut a panel in vellum and adhered a sentiment by Altenew over the top.  This leaves the stencil as the star of the show!

Bold and Bright Birthday

Hello, hello everyone! Jen here from Caffeinated Papercuts with my very first design team post! Woo! 😀

They did warn you that I’m the silly and extremely caffeinated one, right?

I love the versatility of this month’s challenge, Anything Goes. I gathered together all of my Hero Arts goodies and decided what I wanted to play with…and the Daubers jumped up and down saying ‘me me me!!!’ You just cannot ignore those Daubers when they want something, so it was time to make some splats!

Wait, you’ve never made splats?!? They are so. much. FUN!

I started with a top-folding, A2 kraft card base and taped off the seam with some poster tape. That just keeps the splats from getting on the back of the card, too. If you don’t mind the splat-overlap, then you can skip that step. Washi tape, painters tape, and scrap paper work as well. Gather the Daubers you want to use together, line them up all cute in a row, then starting about 3″ above your card base…SPLAT! Right onto the paper!

I used (4) different Daubers for my card; Orange Soda, Tide Pool, Butter Cup, and White. I started with the lightest color, Butter Cup, and then kept layering from there with the Orange Soda, Tide Pool, and finished with the White. Once you’ve happily splatted the front of your card, walk away and let it dry. You might be able to use a heat tool, but I was afraid of messing up my splats…ok, and dinner was ready. Hey, splatting is hard work!

CP-drying splats

When the card was dry, I pulled out my Glow Girl stamp set from Hero Arts and stamped it right in the middle with Versamark ink. To keep the neon theme going, I pulled out some neon orange Zing embossing powder to finish it off.

Dauber Birthday Card

If I hadn’t added in the white splats, I would have used the Hero Arts White embossing powder instead for a fun contrast. Next time!
