Believe in Yourself from Guest Designer Lynnea Hollendonner

Take it away, Lynnea!

Hi! I’m Lynnea and I am a wife, mom, and happy cardmaker! I love watercolor techniques and anything shiny and glittery!…and gold! Who doesn’t love gold? I have been cardmaking since I was 13 years old! It is still my go-to way to relax at the end of the day. I have a degree in forensic biology and a minor in chemistry. My husband and I adopted our little boy at the end of July! It was the longest 2 year journey of my life! I frequently craft with him. He loves to put ink and paint on his fingers and make a creation of his own! My style is very clean and simple with a bit of pizzazz!

I’m so excited to bring you one of my card creations for this month’s bright and beautiful challenge! I used the Believe in Yourself Narwhal stamp set and Distress Inks to make my card. Rainbows are all the rage right now and I have recently jumped on the bandwagon! I usually like single colors or ombre, but I’m starting to see why everyone loves rainbows! I grabbed a rainbow of colors – Festive Berries, Spiced Marmalade, Fossilized Amber, Crushed Olive, Mermaid Lagoon, and Dusty Concord. I used the ink smooshing technique to create the background. I smooshed some ink onto a piece of acetate and added a spritz of water. Then I just smooshed the acetate onto a piece of watercolor cardstock. I dried each color as I went so there wouldn’t be excessive mixing. As I lifted the acetate off the paper some of the ink spattered around the card. At first I thought I ruined it, but I quite like the effect!

Narwhal 2

I stamped the Narwhal and coordinating images with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored them with Copic markers. The grays I used are N0, N2, N4, and N6. I used BV2 and BV4 for the tusk and B00 for the water. The pinks on the unicorn mane and tail are R81 and R83. I covered the images with some Wink of Stella clear glitter pen and Glossy Accents. All of the moisture from these products smeared the black ink and gave everything a gray tone, but I still like it! I used some white embossing powder to heat emboss the sentiment and trimmed the panel down to 4 1/8 by 5 1/2 and added a slim piece of gold glitter cardstock to the side. BOOM! All done! Thank you for joining me!
